Welcome to Year 2!

We have had a great first week back with the highlight, being our Drumming music workshop. Our teacher, introduced all his drums in an assembly playing a variety of pieces of music and allowing children to have a go. Then in the afternoon, each class had the opportunity to learn more about each instrument and we all performed a piece. What was especially lovely to see, was when Tim asked the children about music from around the world, the children were answering his questions about the continents and where the countries were, with so much confidence and knowledge, that it showed how much they have learnt already this year. All in all we had a great ,(if a little noisy) time.

In literacy this week, we have been writing fantastic firework poems, focusing on using imaginative descriptions and adverbs for extra detail. We have also been talking about firework safety leading up to the weekend. Next week, we will be starting our topic on The Gun power plot, in particular creating wanted posters of Guy Fawkes as we write our own character descriptions of him. In Art we will be painting our own portraits of Guy Fawkes, learning how to mix colours and use different sized brushes to create effects.

In numeracy we have been exploring 2d and 3d shapes, looking carefully at their properties and using vocabulary such as faces, vertices and edges in our investigations. Next week we will be using some apparatus new to the year group to explore numbers, think about positional language, reinforce our number bonds and introduce the beginnings of multiplication ready for the following week.

Our PE this week is dance related as we begin to learn our dances to perform at Christmas. We are learning dances under the tuition of a dance expert from Star Steppers so hope you will be impressed.

We hope you have a lovely weekend and if you are coming to the school firework display, we look forward to seeing you there.
