Welcome to Year 2!

Here is the update on last week and this week’s learning in year two.

In maths we have completed our first unit on addition and will be moving on to learn the language of subtraction and methods we can use over the next few weeks. The children will be continuing to use their number bond knowledge to help them when subtracting so if your child is still learning their bonds to 10 or 20 please do ensure they know them and are using them.

We have completed a geography unit about Kenya and will be learning about life in New Zealand over the next week through art, geography and PE. If this is a country you are familiar with, or have artefacts to share, then please do send them in.

Our literacy focus this week is fiction. We will ‘jump into a picture’ and write an adventure story with a start focused on the setting. Children will be given photographs of some of the beautiful landscapes of New Zealand to fire up their imaginations.

We look forward to seeing some of you at our Harvest Festival on Thursday 12th October. On this day we will also be taking part in a Bollywood dance workshop and we are hoping that our Harvest performance will be able to fuse the two traditions (weather permitting). We will definitely be singing some harvest songs though and reading some Harvest poems and prayers to you.

Please be aware that parent consultations are on Tuesday 17th and Thursday 19th October. Appointments will be available online from Tuesday 10th October at 8.00pm

Have a lovely week,

The Year Two Team
