Welcome to Reception!

We can’t believe we have come to the end of our first half term. The children have done a fantastic job of settling into school life. We have had an enjoyable half term and are looking forward to lots of exciting learning challenges ready for us when we return after the half term break.

This week the children will be learning about the Hindu and Sikh festival Diwali.  Before half term the children had the opportunity to join in with a Bollywood dance session where they had the opportunity to dress up in traditional clothing and dance to Indian music. The children really enjoyed this session and we will use this experience to introduce our Diwali learning next week. We will also be having a drumming workshop on Thursday where the children will have the opportunity to have a go at playing lots of different drums and instruments and explore the different sounds that they make.

We will be sending home some parent voice forms and a half term challenge for you to do with your child. These will really help us to find out about your child’s knowledge of family traditions and customs and have an understanding of the children’s experiences.

This week the children have begun to attend ‘Golden certificate assemblies’.  A golden certificate is handed out to a nominated child from each class by the head teacher in a whole class assembly.  Their achievement is celebrated in a round of applause and then having their certificate displayed in the classroom window until the next golden certificate assembly (Friday) whereby they can take their certificate home.

We are hoping to have a go at some weaving activities over the next couple of weeks to build our fine motor muscles so if you have any spare ribbon or material that we could use we would really appreciate it. We would also love any sparkly/ Christmas craft bits.

Lastly a big thank you to any parents that have donated Sainsbury’s school vouchers over the last year. These have allowed us to buy lots of new equipment for our outdoor classroom including bean bags, balls, skipping ropes and lots more!

We hope you all have a lovely half term and we look forward to seeing you when you come back after half term.

Best wishes
